Aircraft on display at Technik Museum Speyer.
The Technik Museum Speyer is one of Germany’s most remarkable technology museums. Located on the site of a former aircraft factory, it brings together aviation, space travel, railways, automobiles, ships, and many other aspects of engineering under one roof.
Its most famous exhibits are machines that visitors can actually enter. Highlights include a Boeing 747 mounted high above the museum grounds, the German Navy submarine U9, and the Soviet space shuttle Buran. Standing inside these giants gives a real sense of their scale and ambition.
The museum’s collection ranges from classic cars and motorcycles to steam locomotives, fire engines, and space technology, making it an enjoyable destination for visitors of all ages.
Speyer also has a sister museum, the Technik Museum Sinsheim, about 40 kilometres away. Sinsheim is world-famous for being the only museum where visitors can see both a Concorde and a Tupolev Tu-144 supersonic airliner side by side. Its collection also includes hundreds of classic cars, motorcycles, racing cars, aircraft, locomotives, and the largest permanent Formula One collection in Europe.
Together, the two museums form one of Europe’s finest collections of transport and technology heritage. More information about both museums can be found on the official website: Technik Museen Sinsheim Speyer.
For anyone interested in engineering, innovation, or simply seeing extraordinary machines up close, Technik Museum Speyer and the one in Sinnsheim are well worth a visit.
